SECURITY

Why do I get asked Security Questions when I login to O1 ONLINE Banking?
This is part of Multifactor Authentication, also known as MFA.  MFA is a solution that provides an added layer of security by helping ensure that only you can access your Option 1 Credit Union account.  It is to protect you from fraud.  The security questions are ones you pick and know the answers to.

MFA remembers your computer or which device you are using to access your Option 1 accounts online.  Should you need to login from a different computer or device than you normally do, Option 1 Credit Union will take additional steps to verify your identity, such as ask you to answer your security questions.   MFA uses a unique identifier for each computer and device you use to access your Option 1 Credit Union accounts.  Please note, no personal or private data is stored in any way, your security and privacy are our utmost priority.

Why do I have to pick a picture image?
This is another security piece of MFA.  When you enroll in MFA, you will receive an image and caption known only to you - this is also known as a watermark.  Whenever you login we will show you this image so you can be assured that you are accessing your account at Option 1 Credit Union.  This helps protect you from fraud.  When you see your image and caption, you can be confident and secure that you are at the legitimate Option 1 Credit Union site and not an imposter site. When you login to O1 ONLINE Banking and you do not see your image and caption or you don't recognize them, stop and verify that you entered the correct user name.  If you verify that your user name is correct and still do not have the right image and caption, do not put in your password.  Stop, and contact Option 1 Credit Union.  Remember our Call Center is available 24 hours at 800-323-2129.

How does Multifactor Authentication work?
When you visit your Option 1 Credit Union branch office, you know our faces and we know yours.  MFA does the same thing over the internet.  It is a method to identify us to you and you to us.  MFA is a security system in which more than one form of authentication is implemented to verify the legitimacy of a transaction. At Option 1, we use a watermark or image and caption and security questions, see above. The goal of MFA is to create a layered defense and make it more difficult for an unauthorized person to access your Option 1 Credit Union accounts.

In the United States, interest in multifactor authentication has been driven by regulations such as the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) directive calling for multifactor authentication for Internet banking transactions.  Click here to view some frequently asked questions on MFA.
